Mojang/Minecraft documentary coming this weekend

2 Player Productions, the same people working with Double Fine on its documentary, are set to release its original creation, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang this weekend, debuting it online on the 22nd December – if the world doesn't end before then of course.

The movie follows Mojang's founder and the original creator of Minecraft, Marcus ‘Notch' Persson throughout his rise to fame in 2011, showing how a game developer works as well as its ups and downs. Preparing for the release, 2 Player has released a new trailer for the documentary, showing some clips from the movie as well as details on getting hold of a physical or downloadable copy outside of the streaming releases. Those with an Xbox 360 and a live Gold account, will have free access to the documentary when it launches, with it set to go live at 8PM CET in Europe.

In a similar fashion to Minecraft, where pre-orders helped generate tens of millions of dollars for Mojang, 2 Player Productions was only able to make this documentary thanks to Kickstarter, where it raised over $200,000 (£122,000) to help create it.

KitGuru Says: I'm quite looking forward to this. I played Minecraft back in the alpha but never really explored it much beyond building my own castle and digging down to the abyss, so it'll be good to learn a bit more about it.
