A bumpy launch expected for GTA Online

Grand Theft Auto is a massive franchise, but even by its standards, the series has blown up in popularity with this latest release. Suddenly everybody is talking about GTA again and more importantly everybody is playing it. With GTA Online set to launch here in the UK at noon, we're most likely going to see even more hype. However, Rockstar doesn't want people to expect a perfect launch and has warned us of the problems we could face today when trying to play the new online mode.

The main problem to be expected here, much like when Diablo 3 launched, is server stress from everyone trying to log in at once. Rockstar said:

“One thing we are already aware of, and are trying to alleviate as fast as we can, is the unanticipated additional pressure on the servers due to a significantly higher number of players than we were anticipating at this point.”

Rockstar has been talking about ‘growing pains' at launch, and reminding players that they are still new to doing an online mode at  this scale.

Problems Rockstar have listed for launch include:

  • Crashes
  • Glitches
  • Bugs
  • Some unbalanced game-play

Once the game is off the ground though, Rockstar hopes it will improve. GTA Online is going to receive ongoing support and updates with new features and game play elements expected to come. The game will start off with hundreds of missions, though sadly heists won't be available at launch, but they are definitely coming. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olEGtoYs_8A']

KitGuru Says: I don't think anybody was expecting GTA V to sell as fast as it did, the online mode will have its creases ironed out over time just don't expect a perfect experience at first.
