Arkane Austin’s next game will be a single-player immersive sim

Arkane Austin had an unfortunate miss this year with Redfall, a game that many within the company apparently didn't want to make. On the brighter side, it looks like the studio is set to go back to its immersive sim roots with its next project.

Arkane Austin is now hiring for its next game. While still unannounced, job listings have revealed a few details. For starters, it will be a single-player Action RPG, a step away from the multiplayer experiments we've seen from Arkane in recent years, like Deathloop and Redfall.

One specific job listing calls for a Lead Technical Engineer to join the team. Arkane is specifically seeking candidates familiar with single-player ARPGs and immersive sims. The listing also describes the project as utilising Arkane's “emergent gameplay style and immersive simulation values”.

Whatever this project ends up being, it is likely only just entering pre-production and will be years away from release. Given how game development timelines have ballooned in recent years, we could be looking at a 5+ year wait.

KitGuru Says: Personally, I'm still holding out hope for Prey 2. The original reboot was fantastic and it is a real shame that it only started to get recognition long after release.
