At this point, CD Projekt Red has firmly established itself as a multi-IP studio, with both The Witcher and Cyberpunk garnering huge amounts of money. However, CDPR is also hard at work on establishing a third pillar for its gaming efforts, the mysterious Project Hadar.
In a earnings call this week, CD Projekt Red co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, confirmed that Hadar will be a brand-new IP for the company. After a couple of years of exploratory pre-production work, the company is now confident in the foundation it has in place and is ready to ramp up work on this new mystery franchise.
“We have an important development update regarding our third franchise, Hadar”, Nowakowski said. “Work on the project is progressing dynamically, and the team has established the foundations of this entirely new IP. Now, we have clearly defined distinguishing features of this world, and established key pillars that will not only provide the foundation for the game itself, but also, potentially, for other future products.”
Like The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, Hadar will also be built using CD Projekt Red's custom version of Unreal Engine 5, which has added features that Epic Games is now implementing in the base engine for the wider game development community.
KitGuru Says: It will be interesting to see what Hadar ends up being. For now, only a small team is working on it, with the majority of developers at CD Projekt Red focusing on The Witcher 4, with a second large group of developers working on Cyberpunk 2.
