Kinetic Games has confirmed that Phasmophobia’s long‑awaited Player Character Update will launch on 5 May, introducing overhauled character models, new animations and a full customisation system.
The update reworks each ghost hunter with improved movement, new death and revival animations, and expanded EMF reader interactions. From launch, players will be able to customise their characters with new hairstyles, clothing layers, accessories and other cosmetic options. Items can be unlocked through gameplay challenges or purchased via an in‑game store that uses only in‑game currency. Players who completed missions during the 2026 Cursed Hollow event will also receive exclusive cosmetics, including a necklace, T‑shirt and Forest Spirit Mask.
Art director Corey Dixon said the update reflects the team’s long‑term goal of deepening immersion and giving players more ownership over their characters. “Since Phasmophobia launched in 2020, the team has put in so much effort to make the game more immersive and replayable,” Dixon said. “Giving players the freedom to personalise their ghost hunters feels like the natural next step.” He added that the new models and animations “start to up the scare factor even more,” describing the update as one part of the studio’s broader journey toward 1.0.
The Player Character Update will be available for free on all platforms on the 5th of May. Phasmophobia remains available on PC via Steam, PS5, PS VR2 and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $19.99/£16.75/€19.50.
KitGuru Says: It looks like the Phasmophobia devs are dialling up the polish on the game as we get closer to the 1.0 launch, which should happen later this year.
