Tony Hawk teases new Pro Skater game as series hits 25-year anniversary

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is a beloved nostalgia trip for many who grew up in the PS1 and PS2 era. Since being acquired by Microsoft, Activision had apparently revived negotiations with Tony Hawk himself, and now, a new game is being teased.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater was put on ice after the disastrous launch of the most recent sequel, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5. Since then, we did get a remaster for the original two games, but things have been quiet since then. Tony Hawk is now breaking that silence, confirming that “there will be a future” for the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games in a post on Instagram.

“My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders. I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and, as some have argued, change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution). It definitely changed the course of my life.”

“I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series, but there will be a future.”

Microsoft has been interested in reviving a number of dormant IP following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Aside from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, there are also plans for a new StarCraft game brewing at Blizzard.

KitGuru Says: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater shaped a lot of childhoods. Hopefully the next game can do the same, with a soundtrack that lives up to the original games to boot.
