Indie game looks like undersea Space Cadets

If you're a board gamer, especially one that dabbles in cooperative experiences, then chances are you've come across Space Cadets, a 2-8 player game that has you defending your starship against enemies and the harsh realities of space in real time, 30 second turns. It's a great game and it's not the type you'd expect to appear on the PC, but We Need to go Deeper looks to be very similar indeed, except you're in a yellow submarine, diving into the bowels of the ocean.

In WNTGD, you and up to three other friends must control your trusty submarine, with one acting as pilot and the others as crewmen. Those shipmates not in the driving seat must manage the power distribution, load torpedoes by hand, repair the hull and man the sensor equipment, all to help you survive a little longer against the terrors at the bottom of the ocean. There's killer whales, sharks, squid and all other manners of nasties once you get down to the deep. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8ro8Bca9nA']

You'll also be able to get out and wander around, searching for treasure and gunning down enemies by hand, though it looks far riskier than cowering behind the armoured walls of your submersible.

Which intrepid adventurers would you take into the deep?

The graphical style is hand drawn and simplistic, but it works fantastically with the music and theme to create a very retro, gentlemanly descent into the unknown. Though I doubt it removes much from the trepidation you feel as you get deeper, as this game is a rogue-like, so death is a certainty at some point. However you'll get your own goggle-headed character to play with and can customise your class with a pair of weapons or tools of your choosing.

Currently WNTGD is up on Steam Greenlight and is scheduled for a release later this year.

KitGuru Says: That really does look like a real time version of Space Cadets under the sea. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this one.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
