HTC smartphones: security issues exposed

Website Android Police have published a report which highlights a ‘massive security flaw' for their devices. This website has been responsible for finding some issues with Android products in the past.

They claim that due to the customisations and modifications by HTC of the Android operating system that it is easy for outside users to access personal data stored on the user device. This includes user accounts, phone numbers, location data and email addresses. The findings indicate that any program which requests a ‘common permission' from the device can get access to the personal information.

HTC are already taking  the report seriously and have issued a statement which reads “HTC takes our customers' security very seriously, and we are working to investigate this claim as quickly as possible. We will provide an update as soon as we're able to determine the accuracy of the claim and what steps, if any, need to be taken.”

Android Police have said that users on these devices should be very careful about downloading applications which look suspicious and say the EVO 4G, EVO 3D, Thunderbolt using the HTC stock Sense overlay are affected by the security issues.

Kitguru says: If you use one of these phones, be careful until HTC release a patch.
