Marvel Rivals gets new heroes and rank reset for major mid-season patch

Marvel Rivals has continued to be a huge success in the months since launch. At this point, players are well into the game's first season, but there is a major mid-season update on the way. Not only can we expect two more characters on the roster, but there will also be a rank reset.

When Marvel Rivals Season 1 first went live, the developers introduced two members of The Fantastic Four – Reed Richards and Invisible Woman. Now for the mid-season update, Human Torch and The Thing are also joining the line-up of playable characters. As you would expect, The Thing is a tank character (otherwise known as a Vanguard in Rivals) and Human Torch is a DPS character (known as a Duelist in Rivals).

This update will also usher in a rank reset, knocking the entire player base down by four divisions. That means if you are currently in Gold, you'll be bumped down to Silver. Future rank resets will knock players back down by six ranks.

We typically see rank resets taking place at the beginning of a brand new season. It is unclear if a mid-season reset will be scheduled for all seasons moving forward, as Net Ease has also said that it will slow down the cadence of new character launches after this first introductory season.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
