Helldivers 2 will now kick players for being AFK for too long

Arrowhead recently patched Helldivers 2 to lay the groundwork for the addition of extra servers. In the meantime, many players have been hogging up the limited server space by logging in and leaving the game running idle for hours on end until they could finally play. To put a stop to this, Arrowhead has now implemented an AFK kick timer.

You will no longer be able to remain logged into Helldivers 2 and stay AFK indefinitely. Now, players will be kicked back to the title screen if they have been idle for 15 minutes.

This should aid with the servers being permanently clogged up by players, but it may also mean longer queues during peak gaming hours. Arrowhead is still working towards increasing server capacity to allow more players in at launch. In the meantime, the company's CEO has spoken out supporting the idea of potential players holding off on their purchase until the server situation has been resolved.

For what it's worth, if you can get into the game reliably, Helldivers 2 is a fantastic experience. I have faced server queues in my 15 hours with the game so far, but I have been lucky in that it usually only took a couple of minutes to get in during after work hours. I have seen others with much longer wait times.
