Former Forza Horizon devs team up with Amazon for new open-world racer

Amazon Games has been signing some key partnerships recently with third-party developers. A couple of months on from agreeing to publish the next AAA Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics, Amazon has now announced a new partnership with Maverick Games, a studio created by former Playground Games veterans, and yes, their first game will seemingly be a direct competitor to Forza Horizon.

The Warwick, UK based studio, Maverick Games, has signed an agreement with Amazon for its first game. Billed as a AAA, multi-platform, open-world driving game, it appears to be taking on competition like Forza Horizon, The Crew or Need for Speed.

The studio was founded in 2022 by several core team members who previously worked on Forza Horizon. Notably, the studio head is none other than Mike Brown, the former creative director of the Forza Horizon franchise.

This currently unannounced racing game will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The studio already has around 60 employees working on the game, and it is currently hiring for a number of open positions too.

KitGuru Says: At this point, Forza Horizon is my favourite game to play when I want to get a quick racing fix. It will be interesting to see if this new studio can dethrone what has been billed as the best open-world racing game on the market.
