Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be revealed in Warzone event

While still not officially announced by Activision, there have been enough leaks all around to confirm that COD 2023 will be Modern Warfare 3. In recent years, Activision has taken to revealing each year’s game through a big event in Warzone and that trend will continue this year.

In a blog post, Activision officially announced plans to host a worldwide reveal for Call of Duty 2023 in a limited-time Warzone event. An exact date for the event has not yet been announced but we would expect it sometime in August, as the final game is expected to release in October and there will be a round of beta tests before then.

Initially, Activision was said to have plans to skip Call of Duty in 2023, with plans for an expansion to Modern Warfare 2 rather than a full new release. Somewhere along the way, Activision decided to instead turn the project into a fully numbered Modern Warfare sequel, because of course they did. The game will see the Modern Warfare series continue for another full year, although MW3 is being developed by Sledgehammer Games rather than Infinity Ward.

In 2024, we should see the next Treyarch-led Call of Duty game. Whether it will end up being Black Ops or a new series still remains to be seen.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
