Microsoft is raising the price of future Xbox games to $70

At the start of the current console generation, Sony announced plans to raise the standard price of its first-party games from $60 to $70. At this point, most other major publishers have followed and now, Microsoft is also planning to raise the price of its Xbox games at launch.

This week, Microsoft confirmed that starting next year, new Xbox first-party games will launch with a $70 price tag as standard. This will apply to Forza Motorsport, Redfall and Bethesda's next big RPG, Starfield. All three titles are currently scheduled for the first half of next year.

In a statement, Microsoft said that this price change “reflects the content, scale and technical complexity” of its slate of next-gen titles moving forward.

While it will cost $70 to purchase new releases, Microsoft is not making any changes to Game Pass. With that in mind, you'll still be able to download and play all first-party Xbox games at launch with a cheaper Game Pass subscription. There are currently no plans to raise the price of any Xbox Game Pass tiers.

KitGuru Says: It is always disappointing to see rising prices, but once something like this has wide industry support, it becomes the norm. Still, this does have the added effect of improving the value of Game Pass further. Hopefully we're still a couple of years away from any price changes there.
