The Sims 5 is on the way promising a ‘next generation Sims game and creative platform’

EA has been attempting to be more open about some of its in-development projects. This approach paid off well for Dead Space Remake, which has impressed us with every developer update. Now, EA is applying this philosophy to the next Sims game, which is in development under the codename ‘Project Rene'.

During a stream this week, EA began showing off an early look at its next-generation version of The Sims – presumably to be called ‘The Sims 5'. EA is building a “next-generation Sims game and creative platform”, looking to give players even more tools and ways to interact with the game.

Project Rene is being built on a newly upgraded version of the engine, with more tools to help players build and decorate with a fine level of detail. Players will also be able to collaborate and design together. On top of that, this next-gen version of The Sims will also have crossplay, so you can take your progress with you between devices.

You can get an early look at some of the tools already in place for this new version of The Sims. Don't expect to get your hands on The Sims 5 anytime soon though. EA is also still working on The Sims 4, with plans for two expansions next year after transitioning the base game to free-to-play.
