BlizzCon set to return in 2023

BlizzCon has been cancelled for the last few years, but there are plans to finally bring the event back. According to Blizzard head, Mike Ybarra, there are plans to host the event once again in 2023.

During a recent interview with the LA Times, Ybarra confirmed that recently hired BlizzCon lead, April McKee, is currently tasked with planning the event for 2023. This will be the first in-person BlizzCon event since 2019, and it will also be the first since a string of controversies, including lawsuits levied against Activision Blizzard, employee walkouts and unionisation efforts to fight for better working conditions.

If BlizzCon does take place in 2023, it may also be the first one to take place under new ownership, as Microsoft is poised to acquire Activision Blizzard in the first half of next year.

Currently, we know about two major releases Blizzard has planned for next year – Diablo IV and Overwatch 2's full release. Aside from that, Blizzard has a couple of new IP in the works, including a new survival game, so there's plenty of potential for major announcements.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
