CD Projekt Red reportedly had a small Cyberpunk Edgerunners game in development

A new report claims CD Projekt Red had a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners game in development, created in partnership with WayForward. Before you get too excited though, it also appears that the game may have been scrapped after an early prototyping phase. 

According to a report from MP1st, a former WayForward developer’s portfolio referenced an unannounced CDPR R&D project titled “Gemini”, described as a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners game. The work took place between 2025 and 2026, suggesting the project never moved beyond early prototyping. The listing included an internal logo combining Edgerunners branding with the Gemini codename.

It is claimed that Gemini was envisioned as a “rollback‑driven” 2.5D brawler, aligning closely with WayForward’s experience on River City Girls. The developer’s notes mention rollback‑safe architecture and online transport integration, indicating that online multiplayer and rollback netcode were planned features. However, the portfolio does not clarify whether Gemini was greenlit, paused or cancelled.

While a small-scale Cyberpunk Edgerunners game may no longer be happening, fans do have Season 2 of the anime to look forward to later this year. CD Projekt Red is also still hard at work on Project Orion, the codename for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

KitGuru Says: Gemini, if real, sounds like an interesting idea, although it is not exactly the type of game fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are going to be looking for.
