North Korea launches its own tablet – no you can’t buy one

While many of us expect North Korea to be living in the dark ages they do surprise us. While three gold medals in the Olympics thus far may be the fact that first comes to mind, the North Korean state has in fact produced its own tablet.

The “Achim” tablet, which translates to morning is your run of the mill 7 inch el-cheapo tablet, although not much is known about it. However, we do know that it weighs 300 grams and has a battery life promise of 5 hours. It is primarily aimed at school children and apparently it is rather popular with students.

In addition to this largely incomplete list of specifications it comes complete with absolutely no internet access. Media buffs do get their fix though, the device is filled with Communist party videos and Kim Jong-un glorifying content.

If you do want one, your best chance is to ask one of the athletes competing at the Olympics. Other than that you could try getting into the country itself and we wish you the best of luck with that task.

KitGuru says: This is one to file under the “didn't see that coming” section.
