Seagate launches new Exos CORVAULT mass-storage blocks with 2.5PB capacity

Back in 2021, Seagate unveiled the Exos CORVAULT, a mass-storage system with self-healing drive technology to pave the way for more sustainable data storage. This year, Seagate has improved the system further, reaching 2.5 petabytes of capacity.

The Seagate Exos CORVAULT 4U106 features Seagate’s high-capacity Exos hard drives, which, combined with self-healing technology, reduce storage networking resources by up to 50% and improve total rack power efficiency by up to 30%. The self-healing capabilities of Seagate’s Autonomous Drive Regeneration (ADR) and Advanced Distributed Autonomic Protection Technology (ADAPT) help reduce downtime and optimise data centre resources, which in turn can reduce the carbon footprint, alongside e-waste.

Now, the Exos CORVAULT 4U106 can be found with up to 2.5PB capacity, offering higher rack density, extended lifecycles and less power per petabyte, which in turn will lower the total cost of ownership for data centres.

Aside from the 2.5PB heat-assisted magnetic recording-based configuration, the system is also available in a 2PB conventional magnetic recording-based configuration.

KitGuru Says: Data storage needs have rapidly risen over the decades, so massive storage systems like this are certainly needed to manage that demand.
