The Nintendo Switch 2 does not work without a day-one patch

We are just one week away from the Switch 2 officially launching. As retailers are now beginning to receive stock, a few people have managed to get their hands on the console early, but Nintendo has put measures in place to make the system unusable until a day-one update.

One person who received an early Switch 2 console posted an unboxing video of it to YouTube, but it was quickly taken down by Nintendo. The video revealed that the console would not function properly without the day-one update, which Nintendo isn't going to make available until June 5th. Without the update, no software can be launched on the Switch 2 and online services can not yet be accessed.

As pointed out by Eurogamer, business-focused outlet, The Game Business, recently reported that some reviewers have been told that they won't be able to capture any review footage early, as the system will require a ‘major day-one update'.

The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches on the 5th of June, which is next Thursday at the time of publishing. The game will launch with an impressive line-up of third-party titles, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as some new first-party titles like Mario Kart World.
