The predicament of the left-handed gamer has lessened in the past few years as we’ve seen a steady release of ambidextrous mice from a number of reputable brands. ASUS already tossed its hat into the ring with its ROG Strix Impact mouse, but is set to please the higher-end market with its ROG Pugio RGB that launched earlier today.

While the Strix Impact impressed us here at KitGuru, its lower-end retail price meant a lot of features were scaled back. The Pugio Aura aims higher, trying to redefine ambidextrous mice as we know them.

Addressing the concern that previous left-handed mice have had, the side buttons are customisable by attaching magnetically. This is to reduce the amount of accidental clicks as they can be removed. It also prolongs the life of the mouse as these switches can be replaced easily. This is a feature we have seen on the Logitech G900 but at a retail price of £119.99 versus £70, the Pugio is much more affordable.

The Pugio offers a 7,200 DPI optical sensor and uses Chinese Omron D2FC-F-K switches that are rated for 50 million clicks. Customisability is key to this rodent. If you remove the four bottom screws and pull back the cover, you can yank out the switches to replace them with the included Japanese Omron D2F-01F switches or several others that are sold separately, all depending on preference.

Unfortunately, the Pugio still retains just two preset sensitivity levels but boasts a separate button to lower the actuation force and travel distance of each click. Topping it all off, ASUS are pushing the customisable RGB lighting with syncing functionality to other ASUS peripherals such as the Claymore.
