Without Activision Blizzard, it is highly likely that Xbox would have been in a steep decline over the last couple of years, with games like Call of Duty and Candy Crush contributing heavily to Xbox's financials. As it turns out, Blizzard itself has been the top-performing studio under Xbox over the past year.
According to an internal memo obtained by WindowsCentral's Jez Corden, Blizzard was the top-performing studio under Xbox throughout 2025. The next year could be even better as well, as Blizzard has a few surprises up its sleeve in preparation for BlizzCon 2026, which returns in September.
“In FY26 Blizzard ended the year as the top-performing studio in Xbox's studios division, and this past year has marked our third highest fiscal for top line revenue in Blizzard's history”, the memo says. The company then went on to confirm that Overwatch is growing once again, recovering from the setback from the launch of Overwatch 2. Diablo 4 also continues to be a strong performer for Blizzard, even if the game doesn't make many headlines, or get brought up often in broader online gaming discussions.
Blizzard has multiple new games in development right now. There are rumours of a sequel to World of Warcraft, one that could finally allow the series to come to consoles. There have also been rumours of a StarCraft revival, including multiple shooter games in development.
KitGuru Says: Blizzard has had a good year. Hopefully BlizzCon brings some exciting reveals for new games, beyond the usual updates we get for titles like WoW, Overwatch and Diablo.
