Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will have Counter-Strike inspired mode

While Call of Duty has dominated the console shooter space for decades, over on PC, titles like Counter-Strike and Valorant have often proven to be more popular. With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward looks to be bringing some of that CS flavour to COD, with a new game mode called Collateral. 

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will have a new multiplayer game mode called “Collateral”, Infinity Ward revealed recently in a blog post. This new mode is a new version of Search & Destroy, where one team fights to protect two bomb sites, while the other team tries to fight their way in and plant the explosives. Don't worry though, that's not where the Counter-Strike comparisons end.

Like in Counter-Strike or Valorant, Collateral also has its own in-game economy. The usual Call of Duty loadout kits are disabled, and everyone starts off the match with minimal cash and a pistol. Players will then earn more money to buy better weapons by getting kills and winning rounds.

These ‘better weapons' aren't the usual fully kitted out guns we see in typical COD matches, instead they are basic weapons, with each one serving a different tactical purpose, from snipers and rifles for holding angles, to SMGs for attempting a rush play.

You won't get killstreak rewards in this mode either. However, the team will be able to pool cash to pay for a UAV.

This isn't the first time Call of Duty has taken some inspiration from Counter-Strike. The series also introduced Gun Game years ago, a mode popularised in CS:S and CS:GO.
