Cyberpunk 2077 is back in the spotlight this week. Following the reveal of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, set to debut on Netflix later this year, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the game has now surpassed 40 million copies sold.
Cyberpunk 2077 had a huge launch back in 2020, with millions of pre‑orders and over 13 million copies sold within the first two weeks. However, once players discovered how rough the launch version was, sales slowed dramatically throughout 2021 and CD Projekt stopped sharing updated figures for a time. That changed as the game began to recover, helped along by next‑gen console updates, major patches, free DLC and the runaway success of the first Edgerunners anime. By late 2022, the game had climbed past 20 million copies sold.
Now, Cyberpunk 2077 has doubled that achievement. In a new post from the official Cyberpunk account, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the game has reached 40 million sales across all platforms. With renewed interest thanks to Edgerunners Season 2 and ongoing discounts, that number is likely to continue rising throughout the year.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in the best state it has ever been. While the game is no longer receiving ‘major' updates, we do anticipate that there will be a small content update coinciding with the release of Edgerunners season 2, similar to the 1.6 update that dropped after the success of season 1.
KitGuru Says: Cyberpunk 2077 has had one of the most dramatic turnarounds in recent gaming history. Have you revisited Night City recently, or are you planning to jump back in ahead of Edgerunners Season 2?
