Star Wars: Hunters comes to Switch and mobile in June

Star Wars: Hunters, a new arena shooter for Switch and mobile, was first announced a couple of years ago and after some delays, the game is finally set to launch.

Pre-registrations are now live for the iOS and Android versions of Star Wars: Hunters, so you can set the app to automatically download once it becomes available on the 4th of June. The game will also be available on Nintendo Switch if you prefer a more traditional console experience.

Star Wars: Hunters is a free to play game with competitive arena combat, developed by Zynga. The game is set after the events of the original trilogy, during the short era where the galaxy wasn't ruled by the Empire, or its replacement, the First Order.

The game will feature a mix of original characters, including bounty hunters, rebels, Wookies, stormtroopers and even a few lightsaber-wielders.

The game has been in development since 2018, when Disney reached an agreement with Zynga to produce a licensed Star Wars game. The game did become available in 2021 for Android users in specific regions, like Indonesia, Australia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and New Zealand. However, the global release was delayed to 2023, and then again to 2024. The game is built using Unreal Engine, but not the latest version, so don't expect any fancy UE5 features.

KitGuru Says: Will you be downloading Star Wars: Hunters when it becomes available? I must admit, the mix of free-to-play, Zynga, mobile and ‘competitive shooter', has me a tad worried about monetisation. Mobile games typically go overboard when it comes to pay-to-win mechanics, and for a competitive game to survive long-term, you can't really have that.
