Starfield has reportedly sold 140K copies on PS5 so far

Starfield has been out on PS5 for around a week now and while it is doing better than a few other recently released Xbox ports, the sales numbers still sound far from ideal for a game that had been in development for a decade.

Alinea Analytics (via Eurogamer) reports that during its first week, Starfield sold an estimated 140,000 copies on PS5. This does beat out the likes of Avowed, South of Midnight and Age of Empires 4, but is still a far cry from what we would expect from a major Bethesda release.

Analyst Rhys Elliot adds that Starfield has sold around 1 million copies on Xbox and a further 3.7 million copies on PC. The PS5 release will likely push Starfield over the 5 million copies sold milestone, but it may take a little longer than Bethesda or Microsoft wanted.

Chances are, if Starfield had launched on PS5 alongside other platforms, it would be the platform sales leader due to PlayStation's much larger install base compared to Xbox. This could be one of the reasons behind Microsoft's decision to release games like Forza Horizon 6 and Fable on PS5 alongside other platforms, forgoing any timed exclusivity window.

KitGuru Says: At this point, Microsoft either needs to go back to having exclusive games, or it needs to rip the band-aid off entirely and make all future games day-and-date for Xbox, PC and PS5.
