Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a modern horror classic, with the 2010 PC title taking the likes of YouTube by storm – becoming a viral hit while going on to spawn multiple sequels. 3 years on from its last entry, it appears as though the team at Frictional Games are preparing to descend back into the darkness with “a new version” of The Dark Descent planned to release some time this year.
As discovered by Reddit user ‘CarlZzZoneNnn’ Frictional Games (the developer and publisher of the Amnesia series) stated during their recent financial report that they are “planning to release a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent at the end of 2026.”
As of right now, nothing else has been shared, and so it is unknown what exactly “a new version” means.
Being a low-budget indie game from 2010, the first Amnesia game could certainly benefit from a facelift. That said, based on the wording used, this ‘new version’ could just as easily be a port for the Nintendo Switch 2 or current-gen consoles.
We will have to wait and see, but hopefully Frictional Games choose to share more information in due time.
