The Rogue Prince of Persia ‘Anniversary Update’ out now

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a highly slick and satisfying 2D side-scrolling rogue-like metroidvania from Evil Empire – the team behind the post-launch support for the equally-as-excellent Dead Cells. Initially released in Early Access in 2024, the game would later find its way onto console platforms, arriving in August of last year alongside its full 1.0 launch. Promising to further add to the game in 2026 with new ‘free’ post-launch content, The Rogue Prince of Persia’s ‘Anniversary Update’ has now officially arrived.

Announcing and releasing the update simultaneously, The Rogue Prince of Persia version 1.1.0 is officially live and available for all right now. Dubbed the ‘Anniversary Update’, this latest patch introduces a great deal of new additions, while also tweaking much of what already exists.

The full patch notes can be found HERE, but some of the most notable include:

• Reworked early level design for greater onboarding
• Early biomes are now shorter
• Multiple bosses have been tweaked and balanced
• Brand new systemic element: Freeze (synergises with other elements)
• 22 ‘random’ modifiers added to weapons and tools for more variety
• 2 new weapons (Shamal Crescent and Blazing Cuffs)
• 4 new tools (Flaming Horses, Freezing Arrow Launcher, Ice Trap, Corrupted Turret)
• 10 new medallions
• New arena ‘challenge’ rooms added across the biomes
• In-game timer and additional stats
• Dozens of balance tweaks

Even during its earliest Early Access period, The Rogue Prince of Persia was one of the most satisfying side-scrolling rogue-lites gameplay-wise, and so it is exciting to see the team further refine the experience across-the-board.

As mentioned, the team announced last year that they would be updating The Rogue Prince of Persia throughout 2026. At the time, Evil Empire promised two major content drops: The Breathless Update in April and the ‘Endgame’ update in May. These were ultimately pushed back, with the Anniversary update now representing a blend of the two.

That said, there remains a few promised additions which have yet to be included, such as a new Parkour Mode, Daily Challenges and pets. Whether these will eventually come down the line, we will have to wait and see. If you have yet to give The Rogue Prince of Persia a chance, now is as good a time as any.
