iPad shipments may drop to less than 12 million in Q3

Apple's iPad shipments are predicted to drop to less than 12 million units in Q3 this year, from 14.6 million in Q2. The drop is expected because Apple customers will be waiting on the iPad and iPad Mini refresh. Sources from the retail channel are predicting this decline.

Apple's iPad shipments continue to drop every quarter, from 19.5 million units in Q1 to 14.6 million in Q2. Q2 shipments were split between 10-11 iPad Mini and 3.6-4.6 million 9,7 inch iPads.

The growing Android market is also damaging the Apple iPad market. Android have accounted for 27.8 million units in Q1, a share of around 50% of the total market. In Q2 the iPad share is said to have dropped from 40% to between 30% and 35%.
