Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 will juice Android devices faster than ever

Yesterday Qualcomm made several announcements, one being its new Snapdragon 820 flagship mobile chip and the rest being the new features that come with it. One of those features is Quick Charge 3.0, which aims to solve the battery life problem by getting your device from 0% to 80% in around half an hour.

Quick Charge 3.0 is the third iteration of the technology, which features ‘Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage'. This is a new algorithm that allows your Qualcomm powered device to adjust how much power it uses at any point in time to allow devices to charge faster.

Qualcomm claims that Quick Charge 3.0 is 38 per cent more efficient than the last generation of the technology. Typically, Quick Charge 3.0 will see a device get from 0% to 80% in around 35 minutes, though this number may fluctuate.

The technology launched yesterday and is available on the following Snapdragon chips:

  • Snapdragon 820.
  • Snapdragon 620.
  • Snapdragon 618.
  • Snapdragon 617.
  • Snapdragon 430.

We will see more devices support the technology next year, when the major smartphone manufacturers all launch new flagship devices.
