Gotham Knights producer says the game won’t be a ‘live service’

There have been plenty of rumours around WB Montreal's Gotham Knights, some dating back to well over a year ago. What most of these leaks had in common is that Gotham Knights would be a co-op game with live-service elements. As it turns out though, only half of that is true.

Gotham Knights may have the makings of a live service game with co-op gameplay, RPG elements and a gear system, but according to the game's producer, Fleur Marty, that isn't really the case.

Speaking with IGN, Marty gave the following statement: “This is very much not designed as a game-as-service. There is an ability tree, which is different for each of the characters, and then there's gear that you craft—and so choices that you're going to be making—but that does not mean that this is a game-as-service. We think that teaming up and living that dynamic duo fantasy can be also a really great experience for players, but we won't force it on them”.

At the moment, Gotham Knights doesn't have a release date, but it is expected to release sometime in 2021. We have seen gameplay for the game, which shows the game taking place in Gotham City at a time where Batman is long gone and crime fighting has been entrusted to his various former sidekicks, like Batgirl, Robin and Nightwing. While it seems to fit right in with where Arkham Knight left off, Gotham Knights apparently does not take place in the Arkham Universe, instead, that universe is being expanded by Rocksteady with the new Suicide Squad game.

KitGuru Says: It'll be a while before we get our hands on this ourselves and of course, there is still a lot more we don't know about this game. We've only seen a bit of gameplay, so there's plenty more to come.
