Assassin’s Creed Origins to get 60FPS update on PS5 and Xbox Series X

With the launch of the Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles, developers across the industry have been pushing for 60FPS gameplay to be the new standard for this generation. Ubisoft in particular has been looking to boost the frame rates of its previous titles. We've already seen Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla getting the 60FPS treatment, and now, Origins will also be getting an upgrade.

Between 2014 and 2017, the Assassin's Creed franchise was faltering. Players had grown tired of buggy, yearly releases, so Ubisoft took this opportunity to reboot the series as a sprawling open-world RPG. This change kicked off with Assassin's Creed Origins, set in Ancient Egypt, which released on Xbox One and PS4 back in 2017. While both games did get 4K graphical updates for the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, the game never had a 60FPS patch, nor has it received further updates for the new generation of consoles.

Ubisoft said it was ‘looking into' 60FPS support for Assassin's Creed Origins late last year, but we've heard nothing since. That changed today, with PSN tracker, PlayStationSize, discovering that a new update for Origins on PS5 has been uploaded to the backend of PSN. The patch notes also specifically state that the update enables “higher framerate”.

With that in mind, Ubisoft should announce 60FPS support for Assassin's Creed Origins any day now, and the update should ship for both Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles.

KitGuru Says: I remember Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey both looking great on Xbox One X, but the 30FPS cap really hurt the game for me. It'll be interesting to revisit both games at 60FPS on the new generation consoles.
