Report claims codenames and specs for upcoming AMD RDNA 3 GPUs

As we approach Q4 more details about upcoming product launches have been leaking. This week, new reports claim to reveal the internal codenames for AMD's upcoming RDNA 3 GPUs, as well as the upcoming Ryzen 7000 series CPUs for laptops.

According to Angstronomics (via VideoCardz), AMD has internally named the Navi 31 GPU “Plum Bonito”. The Navi 32 GPU's internal name is “Wheat Nas”, and the Navi 33 is called “Hotpink Bonefish”. Lastly, the Ryzen 7000 mobile series (Phoenix) is internally referred to as “Pink Sardine”, according to Phoronix.

Moving on to the specs of RDNA 3 GPUs, there are some changes to what rumours have been telling us in the past. For example, the latest reports only mentioned a Navi 31 GPU featuring 192MB of Infinity Cache (IC), 48 workgroups (12.288 ALUs), and a 384-bit memory bus. However, it seems there will also be a variant with the same specs, but “only” 96MB IC. Additionally, the new report mentions a cut-down variant packing 80MB of IC, 42 WGP (10,752 ALUs) and a 320-bit memory bus.

Moreover, the Navi 32 GPU's workgroups have been reduced from 32 to 30. This change means the upcoming GPU is now expected to feature 7,680 ALUs, down from the rumoured 8,192. Like the Navi 31 GPU, the IC of the Navi 32 has also been cut in half, now at 64MB. Assuming that's the final number, the Navi 32 GPU will pack less IC than Navi 22.

Finally, there's the Navi 33 GPU, claimed to be as fast as the Intel Arc Alchemist flagship GPU at a fraction of the price while also consuming less power. This GPU is mainly for mobile platforms, featuring 18 workgroups (4,096 ALUs), 32 MB of IC, and a 128-bit memory bus.

It is also claimed that AMD will have new reference coolers for these GPUs. Navi 31 is expected to use a 3-fan solution similar to the Radeon RX 6000 series, but slightly taller. It is also claimed that these new GPUs won't use PCIe 5.0 power connectors.
