Rocksteady is reportedly working on a new single-player Batman game

WB Games has lost over $400 million on gaming projects in recent years. We already know that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League led to a $200 million loss, but it turns out WB has lost a further $200 million on Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, MultiVersus and an upcoming Wonder Woman game. There is at least a little hope for fans though, as Rocksteady has reportedly been tasked with developing a new single-player Batman game.

The Batman Arkham series propelled Rocksteady Studios into the spotlight during the late 2000s and 2010s. Unfortunately, a desire to chase trends amongst WB bosses led to Rocksteady ditching its single-player approach for its latest game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Fans expressed concerns about this long before the game released, but nonetheless, the title was pushed through to release and was ultimately an embarrassing failure both critically and commercially.

Rocksteady may be able to earn its reputation back though. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Rocksteady is now working on a new single-player Batman game. However, it is still early days, and the game is said to be “years away” from seeing the light of day – much like Monolith Productions upcoming Wonder Woman game, which was recently rebooted after reportedly burning through $100 million.

While a new single-player Batman game from Rocksteady would almost assuredly be a hit, the amount of money WB Games has lost, and the lack of promising titles hitting the market over the next couple of years, it is unclear if WB executives will be willing to continue investing in these projects for what could end up being a five+ year development cycle, which is the rough average for modern AAA single-player games.

KitGuru Says: I do hope that Rocksteady survives the turmoil going on at WB Games. Unfortunately, due to the amount of money lost at this stage, we have to consider the possibility that it is already too late.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
