Hideki Kamiya would “love to” remake Devil May Cry

Ever since his departure from PlatinumGames, Hideki Kamiya has made a number of surprising-yet-welcome decisions, including but not limited to his return to Capcom to direct a sequel to Okami. In a similar vein, Kamiya has now claimed that would “love to” remake the original Devil May Cry if given the chance.

As part of the latest video in his Comment Reply series on Youtube, famed video game creator Hideki Kamiya candidly addressed various fan questions. In response to one user to who asked whether Kamiya would return to other Capcom franchises following Okami, the creative had this to say:

“As for a Devil May Cry remake, of course I'd love to do that. I usually don't replay my own games after release, and Devil May Cry is no exception. But once in a while, I catch gameplay clips and think, ‘yeah, this really does feel like a 24-year-old game design’.”

Offering a bit more of his thoughts, Kamiya continued, “With today's technology and game design approach, of course, I'd want to remake it from the ground up. If that ever happens… Well, I don't think seriously unless it's really happening, so right now, I don't have anything in mind. But if the time comes, I'll come up with something. That's what I do!”

While Kamiya’s repertoire is undeniable, the director has not had the best of luck in recent years, with his stint at PlatinumGames ultimately burning him out.

With a newfound sense of creativity and spark, hopefully the sequel to Okami proves to be a hit – allowing Kamiya even more freedom to pursue future endeavours. We will have to wait and see how Okami 2 performs.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
