Over the years, Spiders began to grow a reputation for its RPGs, which didn't quite hit AAA quality, but had cult appeal. Unfortunately, the studio may now be facing closure.
According to a report from Origami, Spiders has been unable to find a buyer after a number of Nacon-owned studios went insolvent. As a result, layoffs at the studio may begin soon as it winds down operations.
This would mean that while the Greedfall IP lives on paper, there will no longer be a team to work on it, so fans may never see a true Greedfall 2. Spiders did just bring Greedfall: The Dying World out of Early Access, but it is a prequel to the first game, and not as well received as the original. The game was also clearly not a sales hit, as Spiders is now facing imminent closure.
According to Insider Gaming, Spiders had been working on a project titled ‘Dark' in 2025 but it was cancelled in late 2025. It is also claimed that the studio had been pitching Greedfall 2.
KitGuru Says: This is a huge shame and rather unexpected given that Nacon was set to make a number of major game announcements just weeks ago before the financial situation came to light.
