For many, the Assassin’s Creed franchise peaked during the late PS3 and early PS4 era, with the likes of the Ezio Trilogy and Black Flag not only being some of the highest rated entries in the franchise, but also some of the best-selling. It therefore comes as little surprise that the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced remake has launched to a great deal of enthusiasm – selling over 2 million copies in 24 hours.
Taking to Twitter to make the official announcement, the Assassin’s Creed page confirmed this major milestone, writing: “Dash my Buttons… Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has already passed 2 million copies sold! Whether you're sailing with us again, or stepping aboard the Jackdaw for the first time: THANK YOU from the bottom of ARR hearts.”
2 million copies sold in 24 hours is already an impressive achievement. Putting it into context however reveals just how big of a deal this appears to be.
Compared to the latest original entry in the series, Black Flag Resynced is already off to a much stronger start, with last year’s AC Shadows only managing to surpass 1 million players on day-one.
1 million players of course does not equate to 1 million copies sold, with the game being available day-one on Ubisoft’s subscription service. Black Flag Resynced was also added to Ubisoft+ right from launch and yet its sales have doubled that of Shadows’ player numbers.
As mentioned, Assassin's Creed Black Flag is one of the highest rated and most successful entries in the AC series, and so it is perhaps unsurprising to see interest peak as it has.
Of course, had the remake been bad, then we likely would not be seeing this level of success – and so kudos must be given to the teams at Ubisoft Singapore and beyond for managing to translate this modern classic for new audiences.
