Kingdom Hearts 4 is definitely not getting delayed, director says

Over the weekend, Square Enix revealed the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, alongside a 2027 launch date. It looks like fans can be confident in the release date, as director Tatsuya Nomura has ruled out the possibility of a delay.

While delays tend to be common throughout the games industry, Square Enix has had a very good track record for managing its projects well and releasing on time. 2027 is already looking pretty packed for the publisher with Final Fantasy 14: Evercold and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on the way, so there was some fan concern that Kingdom Hearts 4 could be the odd one out here, but according to Nomura himself, the game's release window is set in stone.

Speaking at the end of the D23 panel, Nomura said “We announced that the game is going to be coming late 2027 and I saw online that some people were saying maybe the actual release date might still get pushed back. I just wanted to set the record straight, that is not happening, so I do hope that people look forward to the game coming in 2027”.

Kingdom Hearts 4 was first announced five years ago, as part of the series' 20th Anniversary celebrations. The latest trailer for the game revealed a playable Mickey Mouse section, alongside a new world inspired by Pixar's Coco, as well as a late 2027 release window for all platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2.

KitGuru Says: The wait from Kingdom Hearts 2 to Kingdom Hearts 3 was excruciatingly long for long-time fans. Fortunately, it looks like from now on, fans won't have to undergo a wait quite like that again.
