Free Dragon’s Dogma 2 update brings new Hard Mode, economy adjustments and more

As with the first game before it, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it type of experience, particularly upon the sequel’s official launch back in 2024. Since then however, the team at Capcom have taken steps to improve upon a number of its issues. In anticipation of the game’s major ‘Dark Arisen’ expansion, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is set to receive its biggest update yet.

Officially going live on the 8th / 9th of October depending on your platform, Capcom has detailed the next major update coming to Dragon’s Dogma 2 in alignment with its upcoming Dark Arisen expansion. While the update will bring in support for the aforementioned DLC, those sticking with the base game still have plenty to look forward to.

The full suite of patch notes can be found HERE, with some of the most notable including:

  • New Hard mode
  • An improvement to New Game+ allowing you to “carry over current saved data and start the game over from the beginning” at any point
  • Orienteer Pawn specialisation
  • Tripled the number of rift crystals received
  • PSSR2 support (PS5 Pro)
  • FSR 3 Frame Generation (PC)
  • Updated DLSS to version 4.5 (PC)
  • Support for DLSS multi-frame generation (PC)
  • Adaptive Triggers / Advanced Haptics enabled on DualSense controllers (PC)

Of course, the update also comes with a bunch of bug fixes and other ancillary improvements. Beyond the visual improvements, it will be interesting to see how Dragon’s Dogma 2 will approach its Hard Mode.

For the uninitiated, the first game’s Hard Mode arrived as part of a paid DLC and brought with it a great deal of changes, ranging from enemy resistances to stamina reductions; the amount of gold and XP earned; some alterations to enemy numbers and more. Whether DD2’s hard mode will be similarly transformative remains to be seen, but regardless it is welcome to see the feature being free this time round.
