AMD announces acquisition of Nod.ai

The AI era is truly upon us, with all major tech companies investing heavily and trying to establish a position in the AI market. AMD is looking to shore up its AI expertise this year with the acquisition of Nod.ai.

AMD today has announced plans to acquire Nod.ai, which has developed its own open AI software. The acquisition will bring to AMD an experienced team that can create and accelerate the deployment of AI solutions optimised for Ryzen/EPYC processors, Radeon GPUs and AMD's Instinct Data Centre accelerators.

Speaking on the acquisition, Vamsi Boppana, Senior VP of AI Group at AMD, said:

“The acquisition of Nod.ai is expected to significantly enhance our ability to provide AI customers with open software that allows them to easily deploy highly performant AI models tuned for AMD hardware. The addition of the talented Nod.ai team accelerates our ability to advance open-source compiler technology and enable portable, high-performance AI solutions across the AMD product portfolio. Nod.ai's technologies are already widely deployed in the cloud, at the edge and across a broad range of end point devices today.”

Nvidia has solidified its position in the AI market in recent years with GPUs like the GA100 and GH100. At Intel Innovation this year, Intel also talked up the future of AI and the company's ability to offer competitive hardware and software solutions through new processors and tools like Intel Developer Cloud.
