Sapphire HD6870 Toxic Edition Review – the fastest HD6870 available?

For overclocking today, we received the latest beta of Sapphire's own tool – TRIXX. This allows the Toxic Edition voltage to be adjusted via software.

An overview of the Sapphire HD6870 Toxic card, including clock speeds and temperatures.

Without touching the voltage, we managed to get the core to 1010mhz, any higher and artifacting would occur.

By increasing the GPU voltage to the limit we managed to push the core clock to an eye popping 1060mhz. The memory could also be increased higher, right up to 1230mhz (4920mhz effective). Exceptional overclocking results, especially considering the high ‘out of the box' settings.

At our maximum overclocked settings, the Toxic HD6870 has managed to push past the two overclocked GTX460 cards. Core temperature rose by 5c, which is still considerably less than the reference card at much lower voltage settings.
