Seagate launches world’s biggest portable external HDD

Today has been something of a minefield for news reporters but fortunately, Seagate isn't trying to fool us with its announcement of the world's highest capacity portable external hard drive, which comes powered by a single USB 3.1 port and houses 8TB of capacity. That is a lot of storage to be able to take on the go with you.

While there are a lot of high-capacity storage solutions around, some of the bigger drives often require additional power sources, but Seagate's Innov8 drive makes use of the super fast speeds of USB 3.1, which can provide up to 100 watts of power to connected devices.

The Innov8 drive from Seagate comes in a solid aluminium enclosure, meaning it will be fairly well protected while travelling around. It also has mounting options available and comes packaged with software that lets users schedule regular backups.

Such a drive does not come cheap though, the Innov8 8TB USB 3.1 external hard drive will launch at $350 and goes on sale this month.

KitGuru Says: It is always great to see drive makers pushing for higher capacities and taking advantage of newer technologies like USB 3.1. How much external storage do you guys normally keep around?
