MemTest86 can now identify faulty DDR5 memory modules

MemTest86, the famous memory diagnostic tool, has received an important update for DDR5 users. An upcoming version of the memory testing software will help us move into a “new era of memory testing”, allowing users to identify faulty DDR5 memory modules within the stick.

The new feature coming to Memtest86 (via Computerbase) will allow users to track down the specific module failing the test, allowing anyone with issues on the system's memory to find out what memory stick is at fault. Thanks to the new feature, identifying a faulty memory stick will become much easier.

Unfortunately, the capability to identify faulty modules is exclusive to DDR5 memory. Only Intel Alder Lake and upcoming platforms like Intel Raptor Lake and AMD Ryzen 7000 series can benefit from it.

We don't know when a Memtest86 version with the faulty memory detecting feature will become available. The latest update was released in January, so we expect the developer will launch a new version in time for the latest launches from Intel and AMD, which should occur within the next few months.
