Honkai Star Rail surpasses Genshin Impact with 10 million pre-registrations

Genshin Impact put studio MiHoYo (now known as Hoyoverse) on the map, with the open-world free-to-play Zelda-like title raking in over $4 Billion since its release in late 2020. The team’s next game following Genshin Impact is the turn-based RPG ‘Honkai: Star Rail. Ahead of its release on the 26th of April, Hoyoverse revealed that the game has already surpassed 10 million pre-registrations – achieving this milestone faster than Genshin Impact.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Honkai: Star Rail page said: “10,000,000 Pre-registrations Reached! Pre-register now to unlock rewards such as Star Rail Pass ×20 and the 4-star character Serval (Erudition: Lightning) ×1!”

For the uninitiated, Honkai Star Rail was first announced in late 2021 and is an upcoming free-to-play turn-based strategy RPG which follows on from Hoyoverse’s other Honaki titles (the most recent of which was 2016’s Honkai Impact 3rd).

While the game has been announced for iOS, Android, PC and PlayStation, the console version is not up for pre-registration and has no release date, meaning the 10 million figure applies only to the mobile and PC versions of Honkai: Star Rail. This is impressive especially when compared to the ever-popular Genshin Impact, which took until the game’s launch to hit 10 million registrations – and was available on an extra platform (PlayStation).

With Honkai Star Rail set to have an even bigger launch than Genshin Impact, it will be interesting to see how reception compares both critically and commercially following its release next week.
