Satisfactory’s Unreal Engine 5 update available now

Back in march, the team at Coffee Stain Studios announced that they would eventually be upgrading their popular first-person open-world factory building game ‘Satisfactory’ to Unreal Engine 5 – including all of the many benefits that would come alongside it. Now, the UE5 update is finally available, massively overhauling the game’s graphics and visuals.

Available right now via the experimental branch, Satisfactory has been officially upgraded to Unreal Engine 5, letting players take advantage of its many features including ray-tracing via Epic’s Lumen technology, Nanite for some specific objects based on their own discretion and Epic’s Temporal Super Resolution – promising 4k-like visual quality while running natively at just 1080p.

According to the devs, using Lumen for lighting is technically not officially supported. That said, the feature is available to toggle on and off, and so we can see just how transformative the tech is for this game.

The full list of changes added with this update can be found HERE, but it is safe to say that especially for a creativity-focused open-world sandbox such as Satisfactory, the switch to Unreal Engine 5 is a major deal. Hopefully more games follow suit.
