Assassin’s Creed Valhalla director returns to Ubisoft

Ubisoft has re-hired the game director behind Assassin's Creed Valhalla as part of its restructuring and leadership shake-up to better prioritise its biggest franchises. 

Eric Baptizat had worked at Ubisoft for over 15 years, filling important roles on major Assassin's Creed titles like Black Flag, Unity and Origins, before being the game director on Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which is one of the top-earning games in the series. Over the past few years, Baptizat has been working at EA Motive on projects like Dead Space Remake.

As spotted by VGC, the former Assassin's Creed director has now returned to Ubisoft as the new ‘head of content' for the Assassin's Creed brand, meaning he will now oversee all major projects, which likely includes cross-media efforts like the Netflix series.

He leaves EA at a pretty good time, as the company is set to undergo a huge round of layoffs after being recently acquired by a private investment group.

KitGuru Says: Assassin's Creed has an interesting few years ahead, as next year's title Hexe will apparently shake up the formula once again, offering closer to a linear experience compared to the sprawling open-worlds of Odyssey and Valhalla.
