Build a Rocket Boy goes into administration

Build a Rocket Boy, the studio founded by former Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, was reported to be shutting down just last week. Now, the company has officially filed for administration.

As spotted by gaming.net, the Companies House website, a public database of all registered companies in the UK, now shows that Build a Rocket Boy is officially in administration.

The report also shows some of the wider financial pressure Build a Rocket Boy was under. In its most recent accounts, the studio posted an operating loss of £47.5 million and a net loss of £36.2 million for the nine‑month period ending 30 September 2025. As of that date, the company also owed £61.8 million to its creditors, a figure that ultimately contributed to the insolvency filing.

Cash reserves also fell sharply, dropping from £51.9 million at the end of 2024 to £19.4 million by September 2025. Directors warned that a £17 million preference‑shares liability becoming payable in the near term would require new funding.

Overall, the situation isn't looking good for the studio and it seems highly unlikely that it will be able to open its doors back up.

KitGuru Says: We just had a roadmap update for MindsEye in April, so I don't think anyone was expecting such a sudden crash a few months later. Now, it looks like that game will never reach its full potential, and the larger ‘user content platform' that the studio apparently had in the works will also never get to launch.
