HaloFest still happening this year despite recent Halo changes

Halo's 25th Anniversary celebrations were complicated a bit by two things this year. Firstly, Halo: Campaign Evolved didn't quite get the reception it was hoping for. Secondly, Microsoft also just announced that it is essentially winding down Halo Studios and handing the IP off to Activision. Despite all of that, apparently Halo Fest is still happening this year.

Halo Fest was already planned for December 2026 and according to Tahir Hasangjeka, a director at Halo Studios (and previously 343 Industries), the event will be continuing as planned despite recent changes.

As spotted by Insider Gaming, Hasangjeka recently shared the following in a tweet: “Jumping on here briefly to confirm Halo Fest is still on for December. No changes to dates, locations, etc. For more details on the event, I'm going to please ask for your patience as our first priority is to provide support and care for our teammates. We will communicate more updates in the coming weeks.”

Halo Studios at this point has undergone another round of layoffs, transitioning the studio from a full development team to a smaller crew to maintain the current Halo titles and their competitive scenes. Future Halo titles will be developed by Activision instead, although we don't expect to hear much about this at Halo Fest itself. Any Activision-led Halo game would be 5 years away at this stage.

KitGuru Says: Halo still has a very dedicated core fanbase, but given the hiatus Halo is about to go on as a whole, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see HaloFest return for a few years after this.
