While Halo Infinite may not have been the grand revival that Microsoft were hoping for the franchise, series co-developer Certain Affinity looked to be prepping to offer their own take on the franchise with a battle royale game. Ultimately this project never came to be, with reports claiming back in 2024 that the BR title had been cancelled. It appears rumours of the game’s death were somewhat exaggerated however, with insiders now claiming that the team pivoted and reworked the Battle Royale title into an extraction shooter.

It sounds like Halo: Campaign Evolved will be releasing much sooner than expected. The game was announced last year, with a vague 2026 release window but recent leaks point to a July release date.

Following plenty of leaks and rumours, the Halo 1 Remake – Halo: Campaign Evolved – was finally announced to be coming to PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Being the core pillar of the Xbox brand, Halo’s arrival onto PlayStation has once again sparked up discussions regarding exclusivity. According to Xbox’s Matt Booty however, “our biggest competition isn't another console.”

For months, there have been rumours of a new remake for Halo: Combat Evolved, the original game that kicked the franchise off. This would be the second remastering of the original game, following Halo Anniversary for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. This new re-release also brings about another huge change - Halo will be available on PlayStation for the first time.

Just as how the legacy of Halo stretches back to the roots of the OG Xbox, Master Chief and co. had – in the early days – a strong presence on PC. Unfortunately, 2015’s Halo 5 never came to the platform, and we now know why.

Long-time Halo support studio, Certain Affinity, acquired by Keywords Studios. The acquisition follows the cancellation of a Halo Battle Royale game.

There has been a big shake-up behind the scenes at Microsoft for Halo. After the Slipstream engine proved to be a failure that hampered the development of Halo Infinite, future titles will be developed with Unreal Engine 5. On top of that, 343 Industries is now known as Halo Studios.
