Call of Duty Black Ops 1 & 2 re-releases will be ports, not remasters

Over the past few weeks, dataminers have discovered that new versions of the original two Call of Duty Black Ops games will soon be released on platforms like PlayStation and the Xbox PC app. As these are new versions, some fans had expected a remaster, similar to COD 4, but Activision has now confirmed that these are indeed simple ports.

Yes, Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and 2 are coming to PS4 and PS5, but fans should not expect an improved experience over the original release. In a statement to Eurogamer, an Activision spokesperson confirmed that the re-releases “are ports and not remasters”.

With that in mind, you can expect the game to still run at the same graphics settings, with the same resolution and frame rate targets. The good news is that as far as frame rate is concerned, Call of Duty has always been pretty strict about its 60FPS target, even back in the Xbox 360 days.

The first two Black Ops games have two of the best single-player campaigns and multiplayer components in the entire series. There is a reason Call of Duty became a legendary franchise during the Xbox 360 era, and the first Modern Warfare and Black Ops games are exactly what elevated the series to that status.

KitGuru Says: At this point, most of these older Call of Duty titles are dominated by hacker-infested lobbies. However, with a re-release, we may finally get some new servers to enjoy the multiplayer once again.
