Final Fantasy 7 Revelation gameplay reveal coming to Gamescom

It has been just a couple of months since Square Enix officially announced Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the final game for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Now, Square Enix is gearing up to show the game in action, with new reveals planned for Gamescom.

Gamescom Opening Night Live already has a few major reveals attached to it. For starters, CD Projekt Red will be revealing Song of the Past, a new expansion for The Witcher 3. Now, it looks like Square Enix will also be a highlight of the showcase, with plans to debut “a new look” at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

There is no release date in place yet for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but fans will no doubt be hoping for an announcement alongside the new trailer. Considering that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launched in early 2024, we expect to see the third game release in the first half of 2027, rather than later in the year.

Unlike the previous two games in the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will not be part of any timed exclusivity deal with Sony. Instead, Square Enix plans to release the game for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at the same time. Whether or not the Switch 2 ends up included in that launch line-up remains to be seen but it seems likely given that they did a lot of the technical optimisation work to bring Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth over already, and all three games in the trilogy share assets and technical foundations.
